Eyewear has become a fashion staple (both glasses and sunglasses) and I want to make sure that you're in tip top shape for the season. I know for a lot of you (like myself), prescription glasses are a part of your daily lives therefore, finding a style of frame that represents your personality is important. However, for those of you who are blessed with perfect vision, wearing frames without the glasses as a fashion accessory has become the norm. Apparently the fad started in Hong Kong, where young kids in their 20's began wearing "glass-less" eyewear and even contact wearers started purchasing frames to wear for fun!
Which ever way you like to sport your frames is completely up to you. With or without lenses, the team from Clearly Contacts and I are going to help you break down the key eyewear trends for this season:
Graphic mod patterns and colours were the focus at Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Dior where black and white stripes and polka dots were complimented by Edie Sedgwick and Bardot-like styling on the Spring 2013 runways. The Joseph Marc 4083 Havana frames ($59) have a strong graphical design and feature a rounder shape and keyhole detail.
Transparent layers were featured at Tom Ford, Reed Krakoff and Haider Ackermann and have also been woven into transparent and striated colour glasses frames by top designers. Transparency has been integrated through layers of colour with the gossamer effect of the Georgio Armani 818 WLH Azure Brown glass frame ($149).
Metallics and sequins made a bold statement at Burberry, Fendi and Hedi Slimane’s new vision for Saint Laurent. Whether worn head-to-toe, or as an accent, these pieces are sure to stand out in a crowd. To achieve this effect in eyewear, the sleek and modern design of Carmen Marc Valvo Karina in Gold ($89) is the perfect way to integrate hardware into your wardrobe.
Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Rag & Bone punched up their looks with bright and neon colours for Spring 2013. Whether just used as a design jolt or blended throughout an entire look, phosphorescent details are the perfect accent to bring you into the new season. The Rough Justice Material Gurl Pomegranate ($99) frame features bright accents and is guaranteed to get noticed.
With all these eyewear trends in tow, now's the time to try some on! Clearly Contacts is opening their first retail concept on Robson Street (Vancouver, BC) March 23, 2013. This is the first of what may become multiple store locations for the company.
In the spirit of the opening and for the love of SUNSHINE, I'm also giving away a pair of geek-chic Derek Cardigan Sun 7011 Black sunglasses! Bask in the sunshine with these incredibly comfortable sunnies with adjustable nose pads and flexible hinge springs. (I know, I have a pair and fit is super important to me).
