Have you ever walked out of the house with no make up on? What about not doing your hair? If you have, good for you, you're braver than me and most others I know. I'll be the first one to say, I don't feel comfortable. I typically can't walk out of the house with out some concealer and eye liner. I could care less about my hair (I can just toss it up in a bun), but I'm not one of those women that was born with great skin and I've always been very self conscious about it. Surprisingly, all the wonderful women I surround myself whom I look up to and think are the most gorgeous women on the planet ALL have insecurities about their appearances and all want to have something changed about their face or body. Most of us are super self conscious of the images we put out to the public - Our perfectly poised selfies on instagram, styled outfits and staged homes (always looking extremely happy and carefree).
"Because we are so use to seeing other peoples HIGHLIGHT REEL, we forget that we are all human and are not perfect. This is where all the insecurities stem from". (I have to give props to my fiance, Paul for this quote).
We forget that a lot of us wake up and start the day with bags under our eyes, bad acne, dry skin, and feeling bloated and completely dishevelled.
So when I was approached by Erin Treloar (Raw Beauty Talks) and Melissa Gidney (photographer) for a photo shoot that involves NO makeup, NO photo shop and NO filter I said, "um, ok" (but in my head I'm thinking, oh dear gawd NO)! Well, I can't turn back from it now and I know it will be a great experience and I can't wait to share it with you all early next year. In the meantime, Erin Treloar the founder and creator of Raw Beauty Talks took the time to answer some of my rapid fire questions for today's post and also to share a little bit about what RAW BEAUTY TALKS is all about.
Erin Treloar is the Founder of RAW Beauty Talks, a website launching in early 2014 that will feature photos and interviews of women without make-up, photoshop or filters. Brave women everywhere are wiping off their mascara and stepping in front of the lens to say, "I am enough exactly as I am!". The RAW site will facilitate a conversation about beauty, confidence and self love allowing women to share their stories and connect with one another on a deeper level. Erin is putting the fine lines, freckles and perfect imperfections that make us who we are on centre stage, poised and ready for the world to embrace them. And we will, because each and every one of us is ready to stop feeling like we aren't good enough.
1. What are your Likes, Loves and Loathes?
Likes: Peanut butter, warm places, my magic bag, vision boarding, hot yoga, Christmas.
Loves: Ocean, music, cuddling, singing, dancing checking things off my TO DO list, coffee with friends, wine, good books, friends, airports!
Loathes: spiders, oysters, selfies (sorry but they make me cringe), sex slavery, abuse, poverty, addiction.
2. What hours are you most productive?
3. For your very last meal, what would it consist of and what would it look like?
Italian food on a long table by the ocean under the stars. Risotto, fettucini alfredo with peas (I love how peas pop in my mouth!), garlic bread, caesar salad and a big glass of red wine. I would have all my family & friends there, good music, candles and twinkle lights everywhere.
4. What are your Pet Peeves?
Parking tickets & tow trucks - I swear they follow me! Long lines, red lights, slow walkers...basically anything that gets in my way.
5. What would you put in a time capsule (not to be opened for another 100 years)?
Hmmm… good question. A letter to myself with my thoughts, dreams, questions and goals as a 28-year old. Pictures. Pieces of my story. A video recording of me and my fiancé hanging out in bed and talking. My favourite time ever. A bag of chips and some Twizzlers - guilty pleasures. Some magazines. It will be very interesting to see if they've changed much over 100 years. Fingers crossed photoshopping models will be a thing of the past! My perfume - I have a feeling just the smell of it would bring back so many memories. PS. I plan to be alive 100 years from now!
6. If you were an animal, what would you be?
I would be a baby animal. Any kind of baby animal. I love them all.
7. Name a movie/film/book that made an impact on your life.
Books: I read a book once (can't remember the name of it unfortunately) that asked a question and you were supposed to answer it on a separate piece of paper. That book and that question completely changed my life in a moments time. I read as much as I can and I find every book changes me in some capacity. If you don't read you are missing one of life's most rich past times. Trust me!
8. What is the one thing you wish you were able to do (one talent you don't have right now of course)!
I wish I could remember the lyrics to songs. I sing all the time but I never know the words to any song so it's just ridiculous.
9. If you could invent one thing, what would it be?
My guilty pleasure invention: A vegetable that tastes like a chip. I'm obsessed with chips….if only they were good for me.
What I'd really invent : A cure for cancer. I'm getting married next year and I never had the chance to meet my fiancé's dad. He passed away from cancer 9 years ago. I wish he could be at our wedding.
10. Who inspires you?
I get inspiration from so many people in so many different ways. I read a lot of books and try to surround myself with friends and mentors who encourage me to be a better person. My parents have always been my first source of inspiration. I look up to both of them as individuals and as a couple. I'm also inspired by women like Gloria Steinem, Sara Blakely, Sheryl Sandberg, Ellen Degeneres, Oprah, Gabrielle Bernstein & Angela Ahrendts.
Thanks Erin for taking the time in answering my rapid fire questions and stay tuned for the launch of the Raw Beauty Talks website mid January 2014.
