TRAVEL | Desert Gallivanting, Travel Palm Springs

I spent my #xmas2012 holidays in the sunny desert of Palm Springs with my significant other. Palm Springs has become one of our favourite destinations. It's a short, painless flight from Vancouver and it offers the perfect amount of vitamin D and mix of shopping and food. The Ace Hotel was our home away from home during our visit, with private deck and all.

A few new things since our last few trips, we took a day to explore Joshua Tree Park, drove though Box Canyon and took some amazing photos at the Salton Sea. If you look closely at one of the photos below you'll see Style Quotient in the distance taking phoots.

We tried out a lot of new restaurants: WorkShop Kitchen + Bar  {modern, concrete wall space and cool}; Johannes which was recommended in the NY Times 36 Hours Travel book, an Austrian inspired restaurant {classic, cozy and traditional}; Jiao is a small restaurant with Asian influences opened by the owners of the famous Cheeky's {great outdoor patio and casual vibe}; and two of our new favourites are the Tinto and El Jefe at The Saguaro Hotel {tasty savory Mexican inspired goodness, hip downtown vibe and modern-rustic decor}.

Some new stores and shopping worth a mention: The lovely Trina Turk opened up a Mr. Turk so now the store is double the size and double the fun. Elizabeth & Prince opened up a second location in the Palm Desert and they offer a great selection of easy, resort indie labels. We lucked out and found a flea market the week we were in town just behind North Palm Canyon Drive. I hit it big with some great jewelry finds for Shut Up I Love This!

As I was Insta-gramming away over the holidays I had realized that several other Insta-grammers that I follow religiously were also in town at the same time: The Coveteur,Rebecca Minkoff and The Glamourai, to name a few. We were not the only ones chasing the desert heat and sunshine. I hope they had a fantastic time like we did.

Well Mr. Sunshine and Mrs. Desert, til next time. I hope our next visit to Palm Springs is not too far away.

xo, Sunny
