STYLE | What's Your Style Resolution for 2013?

FashionSunny Shum3 Comments

What about those New Years resolutions? Did you make any? I haven't made any resolutions in the past few years, I found that it was just too much pressure. However this year I wanted to take a step back and make some "light" resolutions and decided to have a bit more fun so I made some style resolutions: What are you going to change or not change this year about your style and why? Style resolutions are much more than just how you're going to wear your clothes. You have to take everything into account and most importantly how it fits with your lifestyle and finances. Along with my own personal style resolutions, I've also asked some other lovely taste makers for their insights as well. I hope you get inspired to make some resolutions of your own.

I like to look fashion - office appropriate at all times and with the idea of starting a family sometime in the near future, not only does my wardrobe need to be trend right, it needs to be professional and functional. I don't believe in spending a gross amount of money on things I'll only wear once so my motto is buy less and get creative with what I already have, spend money on the classic items that will last me more than just one season. I fully believe in accessorizing and I want to do more of it and be more bold. I think it could make or break the look. Photo Credit: Style Quotient.

Monika Hibbs, The Doctor's Closet & Bfrend - "My style resolution is to re-use what is already in my closet! I love to be fashion forward and keep up with the newest trends. But that doesn't mean there needs to be a new outfit purchased for every occasion! I love the way Blair of Atlantic Pacific "recycles" so much of her staple pieces with mixing in a new item to create a new look. Love that!" Photo Credit: Melissa Skoda

Soha Lavin, Count Down Events - "I've had a love affair with black and shades of grey for many years so for 2013 I aim to include an injection of colour in my wardrobe. I'm finding that I'm drawn to strong bold colours like red, green and midnight blue. I'm also going to grow my hair long again and wear more accessories. Overall my forecast is a less serious style for 2013."

Rebecca Rawlinson, Rebecca Bree Boutique - "Resolutions don't have to be dull, drab and chore like, they can be fun too. I have a few style resolutions for 2013. First off, it's definitely time for a closet purge. I want my own closet to look like my store, feminine and organized. Your closet should always reflect your personal style. Secondly, I want to donate, store, or repair anything I don't need or don't wear. Hey, something I don't love anymore could be another woman's new favourite piece! Lastly, organize my shoe boxes - I have so many pretty pairs but sometimes I forget they even exist. As another note to self, I want to get a Polaroid camera and spend some time putting together outfits for last minute parties or dress up occasions."

Carrie Mitchell, Style Groove Media - "My style resolution this year  is to have more fun with accessorizing, and my wardrobe in general. I already love bold colours (of the jewel tone variety), but I tend to lean towards classic ensembles. I feel more free, confident and adventureous with each passing year - it just gets better - and I want my attitude reflected in my personal style. When I see friends like Taylor Sterling, founder of Glitter Guide, Kim Pesch at Eat Sleep Wear or Nicole Pollard at Lalaluxe, I know I could be doing more. I have the pieces - I have worked in fashion for ages - but I need to mix things up, Fresh year, fresh style perspective!" Photo Credit: Ellen Ho.
