HOME | Zara Enters The Cluttered Home Decor Market

LifestyleSunny ShumComment

Zara seems to be on a role, first launching their online apparel shop in Canada and now entering into the Home Decor industry (oh and also launching their sister brand Massimo Dutti in Canada this week). This intense roll out of things happening all very shortly after the news of Inditex's co-founder, Rosalia Mera's death.

Well, Zara has successfully made their way into your closets and now they are making their way into your bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the home.  The site launched today (August 22, 2013),  and their home decor collections include categories such as furniture, tableware, cutlery, bedding, table and bath linens, bath and body, and Zara Home Kids. In addition to their online store, two brick and mortar locations are opening in Canada. One at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto and at Carrefour Laval in Laval, Quebec, opening August 22 and 29, 2013 respectively.

I took a quick look at the site and was able to find a handful of things that I liked and I found the pricing "somewhat affordable". There's definitely some tough competition in their mid-range pricing model. At the moment, I am in love with French blue floral toile prints and Zara has done a great job at providing a decent selection of products in this particular decor theme.

However, I don't think the rest of their assortment is much different from the likes of Ikea, CB2, West Elm, Home Sense, Pottery Barn Kids and Crate & Barrel. Also, I don't know about you, but I personally like to walk into stores to browse showrooms and displays so that I  can get a better idea of how the items will look in my home. With their direct competitors having multiple free standing locations across Canada, I think Zara will have a lot to prove in the online home decor arena. Hopefully they have plans to open a free standing location here in Vancouver so that we'd be able to take a look at the products first hand.

To celebrate the launches in Canada, all subscribers to www.zarahome.com will receive free shipping until September 30, 2013.
